This was a great book full of romance, families and dreams. Katherine Whitfield went looking for her father but found a lot more. Her mother died when she was twelve and Katherine was left with her stepfather and then when he remarried,Nashe felt left out without any family. She had found a chest in the attic that she knew belonged to her mother with clues to a small town in Kentucky where Katherine believed her father might have lived. Leaving her job with her stepfather in California and traveling that far was a very big step for Katherine. The journey she took is what makes this story so good.
Lucky for us he falls hard and fast for Katherine. Side characters were boring af, and I didn't care about any of them. The plot twist about Katherine's mother was kind of convoluted and required a bit of suspension of disbelief. And for the identity of Katherine's father, there's a lot of red herrings and it's supposed to be a mystery but also at some point I just gave up caring.

Sora tells the boy's father where to buy one and he and the boy leave at the next stop, as most of the passengers follow them. Everyone falls asleep, not having slept properly in a while and when they awaken, they find out they missed the stop they were going to transfer at. Unfortunately, Patamon was going to wake them up but Palmon reminded him that they were supposed to stay quiet, so he didn't say anything.

On the subway, Sora offers her seat to a mother and her baby. The baby then begins pulling on the appendage in the middle of Yokomon's flower, and continues to do so until she finally yells at him to stop. Most of the people on the subway are quite shocked, but Sora pretends that she was just using ventriloquism to make the 'doll' talk. This impresses the people, and a boy begins asking his father for his own 'Yokomon doll'.
They exit the subway station to look for their friends and almost cross paths with one of Myotismon's henchmen, a large, mysterious figure in a trench coat. Joe sees the rest of the group though a window in a tall building, and can tell they are eating without him and Izzy. They quickly meet up with the rest of the group to find out that there is no money left for them to order any food. Izzy realizes his Digivice is working again, and guesses it probably only works from close distances in the real world. Thank you Barbara Freethy, I loved Zach and Katherine story, it was wonderful, sweet and mysterious, I'm really enjoying your Books.

The fight between the two attracts a lot of attention from bystanders, and Gesomon is easily defeated. The kids manage to escape unnoticed from the crowds of people watching the fight. Ikkakumon then takes the kids to Odaiba, by travelling in the river. Unfortunately, little did they know, DemiDevimon saw them, and is now aware of their location. Barbara's love of writing developed out of a love of reading.
When Matt refuses, Tai asks why he refused, and Matt shouts back that they can't all fit in the woman's car. Whilst hitchhiking, Matt originally manages to get a seductive looking woman to pull up, much to his embarrassment. When Matt refuses, Tai asks why he turned her down, and Matt shouted back that they couldn't all fit in the woman's car. This bit was cut out of the English dub. Unbeknown to them, swimming in the water below is one of Myotismon's sea henchmen, Gesomon, a giant squid-like monster. Duane gets scared and leaves, while Gomamon Digivolves into Ikkakumon to take on the evil Digimon in the water.
And unfortunately my opinion now is less complementary than it was. I read this book way back in 2012, shortly after I read another one of this author's novels. Back then I wasn't too impressed with this book but I didn't dislike it either. At the beginning of the hitchhiking scene, the first few seconds of Tai trying to hitchhike before he starts jumping up and down is removed from the dub. In the English dub, Sora and Mimi were erased from the shot of Duane pulling over.
That's why I enjoyed "Almost Home" so much. The relationship between Zach and Katherine begins with a lusty attraction that gradually deepens into a friendship and eventually develops into love. It's clear to see that these two down-to-earth people genuinely "like" each other and aren't mistaking infatuation with love. The end result is an intensely satisfying love story.
The English dub adds some whistling noises for the subway train, whereas in the original, there were none. One shot of Sora and Mimi holding up a sign saying "Take us to Odaiba" was cut from the English dub. The Japanese name of Highton View Terrace, "Hikarigaoka", is left unreplaced on a street sign. DemiDevimon is talking with Myotismon and explains that Garudamon was spotted in town along with the seven children. He explains that they have not yet found the eighth DigiDestined, but they are still looking harder than ever all around the city, and he probably will be found soon. Myotismon then tells DemiDevimon that he has to make sure the seven DigiDestined do not find the eighth child.
Great read somehow missed this one as I have read and loved so many of Barbara's books. Katherine Whitfield flew from California to Paradise, Kentucky looking for her father. Her mother died in a car wreck when Katherine was 12, and her step-father raised her as she had no other family. Katherine never felt a part of the family, especially after her step-father remarried.
